We all know exercise is good for us. It boosts our mood, fights off illness, and even helps us sleep better. But let's be honest, sometimes getting motivated can feel like climbing Mount Everest in flip flops.

That's where the magic of community comes in! Our Thrive Thursday events, held every third Thursday of the month, are all about the power of social support to get and keep you moving forward. We support each other and share tips on how to incorporate healthy habits into your routine so that you can flourish. We think it's an incredible way of providing health literacy and opportunities for wellness for our community.
The NIH thinks so, too. In their May article, they shared that the secret to staying active and feeling great is Social Support! It stresses that social support enhances physical activity and overall health and happiness. It encourages readers to explore various ways to connect with others and engage in active lifestyles together. Social connections, including friends, family, and community groups, play a crucial role in motivating and sustaining wellness habits that lead to happiness. https://newsinhealth.nih.gov/2024/05/get-active-together
The next PHZ Thrive Thursday event is on May 16th. We will organize a walk, meeting at the parking lot near Mechanistic at 4:30. The walk will last approximately [30 minutes]. During the walk, you might consider sharing successes and struggles with a partner to help you stay committed to your wellness plan. After the walk, we'll grab a healthy meal to go from Daddy's or CRBC to eat at Mechanistic. At 5:15 while eating, we'll listen to a presentation from Ashley Sheffer, owner of Core Goods in Oil City. Her presentation title is "Local Food - How to Support It & How to Grow It". The presentation will last for approximately [45 minutes]. Ashley says "Supporting local food is important--for the community, our farmers, the economy, and the environment. Ashley with Core Goods in Oil City will share about our regional local food system and how we can support it, while also providing tips for growing your own food at home." She will have some giveaways! Garden seeds, plants, and a couple of gift certificates for fantastic local food.
